Did you ever wonder how it was like before legal weed became the drug it is famous for today? It's true that the fight is not over for those who want to legalize weed in their states (because it's only Colorado and Washington who are cannabis-friendly so far); however, pot has come a long way from its roots way back in the roaring 60's.
More Than Plain Jane
Used since ancient times, marijuana – with a scientific name of Cannabis but more commonly called 'weed' or 'pot' – has had both positive and negative followers. On one hand: medical marijuana has saved lives and lessened the pain of those with chronic (often hard to treat) illnesses. However, used in the wrong hands and it can be a health hazard, based on how the individual's body responds to it.
Today, marijuana can be used for recreational purposes too. In the states of Colorado and Washington where pot is legal, you can simply walk into a store and purchase a bit just as you would other ordinary items (like gum). Weed lovers everywhere have attested to the relaxing and fun benefits of getting high responsibly. Before you smoke it though, be sure to read up and ask some advice from long-time users.
Hemp History Begins
The day marijuana became legal in said states was like an epiphany. For those who were there, or who participated during the fight, it was a huge success. Colorado was the first state to legalize marijuana for recreational use on November 2012. However, it wasn't until January 1st of 2014 that pot shops were given the go signal. Sean Azzariti, an Iraq war veteran and marijuana activist, was the very first customer of legal recreational pot.
Washington followed after that, legalizing cannabis for fun in December of 2012. Legal pot stores won't open until late 2014 though; due to lengthy licensing procedures. However, this opens up possibilities for this once very famous (and practical) plant. Federal laws still make it illegal to be in possession of this drug outside the legal states (and also if you're below 21) though. It's confusing for now, but weed lovers everywhere are confident that this is definitely only the beginning.
From Seed to Weed
Even before shops opened in Colorado, people were growing their own stash for personal purposes. And it's perfectly legal. Colorado made history not just in marijuana books, but in history as the first in the world to regulate the use of cannabis from seed to sale. Those who wish to grow their plants can keep up to six pots, provided they are locked and enclosed.
A Friend With Weed, Is a Friend Indeed
Sharing weed with your friend, as long as it's no more than an ounce, is alright. Smoking in public is prohibited though – but you can enjoy your pot at home or at a friend's place. In fact, this is a great way to meet new people! So why not invite everyone for a friendly pot session?
Remember: recreational weed can be safe and fun. Weed lovers everywhere have fought for this right because it can be beneficial if used properly. So share in the glory by being a responsible pot user who shares and cares!
